EchoVC Analyst (Full-Time)        

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The firm is seeking to hire an Analyst to be a member of the investment team. Ideally, candidates should have successful experience working in the world of venture-backed technology startups as a founder, employee, or intern. In the absence of that, other previous entrepreneurial and/or investment experience of any kind is a significant plus, especially if it relates to information technology. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct market research on competitive industries, evaluate certain products and services and identify trends, patterns, and gaps/opportunities

  • Develop and deliver research presentations to the EchoVC investment team and portfolio companies

  • Participate in and contribute to partnership meetings

  • Screen entrepreneurs’ pitch decks, conduct interviews with entrepreneurs, help investment Partners and Principals with due diligence, and writing investment memos

  • Assist EchoVC staff in carrying out various group and individual activities related to supporting entrepreneurs in the pre and post funding stages

  • Participate in events that help build the ecosystem for entrepreneurs in tech

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Previous experience (0-2 years) with some knowledge of the world of [technology] startups

  • Demonstrated experience with a social impact organization (e.g. President of a diverse student organization)

  • Demonstrated success working with diverse teams

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Work experience in venture capital, investment banking, consulting, or other finance organizations

  • Good/Excellent business research and financial modeling skills

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and passion for finding tech-driven solutions to close quality-of-life gaps

EchoVC Associate (Full-Time)        

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The firm is seeking to hire an Associate to be a member of the investment team and work closely with the startup founders we invest in. Ideally, candidates should have successful experience working in the world of venture-backed technology startups as a founder, employee, or intern. In the absence of that, other previous entrepreneurial and/or investment experience of any kind is a significant plus, especially if it relates to information technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Screen entrepreneurs’ pitch decks, conduct interviews with entrepreneurs, help investment Partners and Principals with due diligence, and creating investment memos

  • Evaluate opportunities for investment, assess investment risks, analyze financial data, and perform business and investment valuation

  • Proactively source new investment opportunities

  • Manage due diligence process, write investment memos and assist with investment execution

  • Conduct market research on competitive industries and evaluate their products and services, and the demand for these competitive products and services

  • Assist EchoVC staff in carrying out various group and individual activities related to supporting entrepreneurs in the pre and post funding stages

  • Interact with entrepreneurs, advisors, clients, financing orgs, lawyers and ICT ecosystem players

  • Develop and deliver presentations to the EchoVC team, portfolio companies and clients

  • Coordinate with internal partners on high-impact strategies and evaluation

  • Represent EchoVC at relevant sector specific conferences, meetups, and events

  • Represent EchoVC at events that help build the ecosystem for diverse entrepreneurs in tech

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Previous experience (2-4 years) and knowledge of the world of technology startups as a founder, early stage employee, or other full-time role

  • Excellent business research and financial modeling skills

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (an MBA is a plus)

  • Degree in Computer Science or exposure to self taught development coursework a significant plus

Director of Finance & Administration (Full-Time)

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

EchoVC is seeking a Director of Finance & Administration to lead the organization’s Finance team.  The ideal candidate will be a chartered accountant with 5+ years of work experience in Accounting, Finance, Budget & Planning and/or Audit & Assurance. The person in this role will work closely with all team members and report directly to the firm’s General Partner. 

Responsibilities:

Strategy & Management:

  • Drive the strategy implementation process of EchoVC and work with the Director of Portfolio Operations to support our portfolio companies.

  • Oversee the operations of the firm’s accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department’s goals and objectives.

  • Dotted-line oversee the accounting operations of portfolio companies, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures

  • Represent and report the organization’s progress on strategic goals to external shareholders

  • Support the fundraising processes of the firm 

Treasury Management: 

  • Manage cashflow projections to meet ongoing operational and capital investment requirements

  • Manage cash flow positions, related borrowing needs, and available funds for investment

  • Mitigation of financial risks related to forex volatility on the Fund's investments

  • Investment of outstanding funds

Transactions: 

  • Manage Accounts Payables & Receivables

  • Monthly Bank Reconciliations

  • Maintain accounting filing system with the chart of Accounts.

  • Ensure a system of controls over accounting transactions 

Compliance:

  • Coordinate and communicate with (i) external auditors for the annual audit and (ii) fund administrators for FATCA and other filings

  • Ensure compliance of all regulatory reporting requirements (either Local, State or Federal) and tax filings

  • Monitor debt levels and compliance with covenants

  • Preparing the management report for noted weaknesses in internal controls and making recommendations to the Portfolio companies management of ways of improving the internal processes.

  • Work with the funds administrator to ensure appropriate compliance

Reporting:

  • Issue timely and complete financial statements

  • Provide financial analyses as needed, for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations

  • Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of Fund operations

  • Responsible for the annual budget and forecasts

Human Resources:

  • Manage the firm’s performance and staff career management processes.

  • Develop and manage the performance management system for staff

  • Payroll

Investor Relations:

  • Work to support the firm’s investor relations and fundraising activities. These activities include coordinating a database of institutional asset managers and managing all other teams to create the required materials which address potential investors’ inquiries.

Administration:

  • Responsible for overseeing general administrative activities for EchoVC.

  • Responsible for the selection and oversight of third-party benefits providers.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience at a top-tier financial/venture capital organization with significant experience working in Accounting, Finance, Budget & Planning and/or Audit & Assurance

  • Chartered Accountant

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong experience working with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Long-term interest in building a career in private equity/venture capital, or in a larger investment management or professional services organization.

  • Ability to be effective in a close-knit (<10 person), consensus-driven organization.

  • An entrepreneurial mindset, which includes having flexibility and interest in taking on a variety of tasks to support the firm’s growth.
