EchoVC Analyst (Full-Time)        

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The firm is seeking to hire an Analyst to be a member of the investment team. Ideally, candidates should have successful experience working in the world of venture-backed technology startups as a founder, employee, or intern. In the absence of that, other previous entrepreneurial and/or investment experience of any kind is a significant plus, especially if it relates to information technology. 


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct market research on competitive industries, evaluate certain products and services and identify trends, patterns, and gaps/opportunities

  • Develop and deliver research presentations to the EchoVC investment team and portfolio companies

  • Participate in and contribute to partnership meetings

  • Screen entrepreneurs’ pitch decks, conduct interviews with entrepreneurs, help investment Partners and Principals with due diligence, and writing investment memos

  • Assist EchoVC staff in carrying out various group and individual activities related to supporting entrepreneurs in the pre and post funding stages

  • Participate in events that help build the ecosystem for entrepreneurs in tech

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Previous experience (0-2 years) with some knowledge of the world of [technology] startups

  • Demonstrated experience with a social impact organization (e.g. President of a diverse student organization)

  • Demonstrated success working with diverse teams

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • Work experience in venture capital, investment banking, consulting, or other finance organizations

  • Good/Excellent business research and financial modeling skills

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and passion for finding tech-driven solutions to close quality-of-life gaps

EchoVC Associate (Full-Time)        

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The firm is seeking to hire an Associate to be a member of the investment team and work closely with the startup founders we invest in. Ideally, candidates should have successful experience working in the world of venture-backed technology startups as a founder, employee, or intern. In the absence of that, other previous entrepreneurial and/or investment experience of any kind is a significant plus, especially if it relates to information technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Screen entrepreneurs’ pitch decks, conduct interviews with entrepreneurs, help investment Partners and Principals with due diligence, and creating investment memos

  • Evaluate opportunities for investment, assess investment risks, analyze financial data, and perform business and investment valuation

  • Proactively source new investment opportunities

  • Manage due diligence process, write investment memos and assist with investment execution

  • Conduct market research on competitive industries and evaluate their products and services, and the demand for these competitive products and services

  • Assist EchoVC staff in carrying out various group and individual activities related to supporting entrepreneurs in the pre and post funding stages

  • Interact with entrepreneurs, advisors, clients, financing orgs, lawyers and ICT ecosystem players

  • Develop and deliver presentations to the EchoVC team, portfolio companies and clients

  • Coordinate with internal partners on high-impact strategies and evaluation

  • Represent EchoVC at relevant sector specific conferences, meetups, and events

  • Represent EchoVC at events that help build the ecosystem for diverse entrepreneurs in tech

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Previous experience (2-4 years) and knowledge of the world of technology startups as a founder, early stage employee, or other full-time role

DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree (an MBA is a plus)

  • Degree in Computer Science or exposure to self taught development coursework a significant plus

Corporate Counsel (Full-Time)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

EchoVC is seeking a corporate counsel to support the organization’s legal team and support its operations and corporate compliance efforts. The role is ideal for an attorney who enjoys negotiating and reviewing legal transactions but is also looking for a broader role in a growing organization.

The internal counsel role involves assisting, coordinating and/or performing legal review of transaction matters between the investment team and the firm’s outside counsel on most initial investments; assisting on the legal review of transaction matters on most follow-on investments; assisting and executing on most compliance matters, including required regulatory filings; reviewing commercial and employment contracts; and coordinating legal efforts with outside counsel relating to future fund formations.

The operating affairs portion of this role is adjacent to the legal affairs portion in that it involves managing various human resources and recruiting initiatives that often require legal review or have legal implications, but importantly, are critical to the growth and success of EchoVC.

This role is ideal for an aspiring junior to mid-level attorney from a top-tier law, banking or consulting firm with experience working on transactions involving emerging technology companies who wants to transition to an operating position at a technology-focused venture capital firm. As this role provides exposure to a range of operational issues in addition to legal matters, this position provides a great platform to build a career leading to a senior operating position at a venture capital, private equity or other investment management firm. 

The person in this role will work closely with all team members and report directly to the firm’s GM (Finance & Ops) and Senior Corporate Counsel.

Responsibilities:

Legal Affairs (65%) 

  • Financing transaction management (25%): Work with the Senior Corporate Counsel and investment professionals to draft term sheets for proposed financing transactions, draft and review investment documentation, manage relationships with outside counsel where required and necessary, work with portfolio companies to handle and resolve legal issues and or documentation, etc.

  • Compliance management (20%): Execute on required tasks necessary for the firm to fulfill its reporting and documentation obligations related to compliance with applicable local and foreign laws and regulations and internal processes and procedures. Includes involvement in IT matters relating to compliance, such as security and document management. Maintain and update compliance policies as necessary.

  • Other legal affairs (15%): Other legal matters include reviewing a wide variety of marketing materials (including the EchoVC website), writing articles, review of vendor and employee contracts, review of non-disclosure agreements, and playing a role in future fund formations.

  • Supporting the Team (5%): Work closely with the team on a variety of projects relating to legal, business and compliance matters.  

Operations (35%)

  • Talent Management and Benefits (10%): Assist on the firm’s performance and career management processes. Assist on selection and oversight of third-party benefits providers.

  • Investor Relations (10%): Work to support the firm’s investor relations and fundraising activities. These activities include managing a database of institutional asset managers and coordinating with the finance, investment, legal and marketing teams to create compelling materials which address potential investors’ inquiries.

  • General Administration (15 %): Assisting with general administrative activities for EchoVC.

Qualifications:

  • 4-7 years of experience at a top-tier law, consulting or financial/venture capital organization with significant experience working on financing transactions and other legal matters involving venture-backed technology companies is mandatory.

  • Additional experience serving as internal counsel at an emerging technology company is a plus, but is not a substitute for significant transaction experience as noted above.

  • LL.B/B.L, J.D. or equivalent degree from a leading law school with excellent academic credentials.

  • Demonstrates strong business judgment and project management skills to be able to execute beyond core legal areas. Exhibits the potential to be a strategic business leader and a value-added partner to the legal and investment teams across multiple areas.

  • Additional legal experience working on SEC matters and/or compliance management matters is a plus, but not required. In addition, a balance of transaction experience on the investor side and company side of transactions is a plus.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Some financial analytical capabilities are required.

  • Strong experience working with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Long-term interest in building an operations career in private equity/venture capital, or in a larger investment management or professional services organization.

  • Ability to be effective in a close-knit (<10 person), consensus-driven organization.

  • An entrepreneurial mindset, which includes having flexibility and interest in taking on a variety of tasks to support the firm’s growth.

  • Interest in emerging technology companies and venture capital.
